Read Poem: The Monster, by Payton Sullivan

Like the glistening stars in the sky,
Or the majestic morning sunrise
Appearing so beautiful,
But inside a monster lys
Hidden in the burrows of her mind
And the depths of her soul
It comes out at night,
And when she’s alone
It tears her to shreds,
And leaves her to pick up the pieces
Brings out her fears, anxiety and depression
Makes her think she’s worthless and needs to reach perfection
It eats away until there’s nothing left,
Leaving her hollow like an empty chest
She can’t sleep it’ll appear in her nightmares
Everytime she closes her eyes, it’s there
She’s the hero and the villain,
The beauty and the beast
For I am the girl,
And the monster is me.
