BALLAD Poem: Bushwalking the Mountain, by Joshua Finzi

You and I skidding across the gravel, the sandy loam,
entranced by dragonflies lancing the sticky sunlight for kicks.
When we were common tigers we danced over dandelions,
we burnished landscapes with kisses, we inscribed patterns
of our marriage across the mountains.
This is how I know you, as a butterfly dallying with
the dry surf,
gathering the winds of history beneath your wings.
