LGBTQ+ Poem: I’m scared you’ll never know me, by Midge Blaeser

I’m scared you’ll never know me
Beyond the child you claim to adore
But I will be who makes me happy

I wonder how that last day will be
When I come knocking on your door
I’m scared you’ll never know me

You might not expect who you see
It may shock you to your core
But I will be who makes me happy

Even if it will set me free
And I know I’m not unsure
I’m scared you’ll never know me

You’ll mourn the loss of who I used to be
Into my heart your words might bore
But I will be who makes me happy

I was never going to be what you expected of me
We can never know what’s in store
I’m scared you’ll never know me
But I will be who makes me happy
