NATURE Poem: The Awakening, by Deirdre Hughes

A carpet of sweet-scented bluebells,
beneath towering oak and birch,
lies interspersed with wild garlic
and bordered by feathery fern
that seek the sun through scattered rays of light;
their lush, green leaves unfurling
as the forest floor, feverishly, comes to life
and spring begins its annual
awakening
