DEATH Poem: I wrote this before I knew you were breaking up with me, by Nathalia Garcia

Your metal-infused jaws make impossible cuts possible.
I have felt the wrath of a stinging insect,
how can something so small so easily slice or puncture?

But we are slashing body parts,
both infused with metals, zinc and manganese.

We pry apart already open mouths
examine the teeth, malformed lines
cutting edges of delicate skin, now red.
A single tooth spit up. Much thinner.

Heartache is typically found in the river canyons of the mouth
We never knew how sharp tools could be

But we learned, together.
