SUMMER Poem: Poolside, by Yuchien Wang

The trick to being the
popular girl this summer is:
sign a lease to a New York high-rise
with a pool.

In this sweltering
waves of heat,
suddenly,
friends and strangers want to be by your side.
By the poolside.

Watermelon chunks.
Citrus slices.
Sparkling water.
Chatters over the platters.

We stay friends
through the winter,
so we can do it all again
next summer.
