ALLEGORY Poem: The Carpenter Retires, by Edward Michael Supranowicz

No longer do I have to worry
If two boards are of equal length,
Or corners are square and nails are unbent.

But if there is a heaven,
It too must have houses.
If so, what clouds are they built of?

If faith holds them together,
Would that be the same as using
Sixteen penny or finishing nails?

I’ve never seen a permanent foundation,
And right now this aging house of air and flesh
Requires my constant upkeep and attention.
