ROMANCE Poem: Orange peel theory, by Eliza Gibbs

Watch me peel the rind for you with bloodied fingernails
Citrus infused with crimson, dribbling down licked wrists
Piercing papery skin and pretending it’s flesh–
Promise me you’ll hold my hair back as seeds

l
l
from my mouth
And collect the pulp with shaking hands for tomorrow’s brunch
That you’ll be late for
