I’ve got to win by Sonya Marshall

I’ve got to win.
This is bigger than me, so I’ve got to win.
I’m in last place…
the course lasts a lifetime…but I have no time.
This is bigger than me, so I’ve got to win.
My opponents are quick…doubt, fear, anger, sadness…
the list goes on…they have a game plan too…
they stick together, blocking my way.
This is bigger than me, so I’ve got to win.
My feet can’t keep up the pace, so I stumble and fall…
I lay there in tears…got to get back in the race…
my opponents taunt me, keeping me down…
If I lose this race, I will fail.
This is bigger than me, so I’ve got to win.
A hand reaches down to me…I take hold to pull myself up…
On my feet, I hear a whisper in my ear…
