Read Poem: Homeliness, by Chandrani Banerjee

The deep-rooted sadness of the deserted streets
The familiar incense scent at the Kali temple
little girls in red and yellow saris
the punctual evening chatwala with his oil lamp lit
the addictive melancholia the joy, the warmth
the climbing tomatoes in my grandmother’s garden
the trail of fallen leaves
My city is home
