Read Poem: Isolation, by Shameda Saffee

Ask,
And I will tell you

How
I would rather
Breathe in
The scent of your body
Exhaling
From brow to toe
All of you.
Animating
Life in me.

Not
With emojis
Mimicking
Our emotions
In and out of sync with time zones

Ask,
And I will tell you
How I long to feel
A heartbeat.
A Voice.
A Footstep.
Presence belonging to you.

Isolation is a teasing terror
Beyond darkness.

Starlight surrounds a full moon
She reveals herself
In a spacious sky
To her companion.
Evening star is
Always by her side.

You
Beyond my hemisphere
Your sunset is
My sunrise.

The other side of midnight
Stretches endlessly into no other view.

Ask,
And I will tell you
To rise up
From bended knees

Stand
Beyond imagination
Where silence
Speaks louder
Than words

Rise up.
Everybody falls

Sometimes.
