Read Poem: Petunias by Bailey Swart

Sometimes I wish I were a flower

rooted in the warmth of the sunlight

all day long.

The cooling breeze tickling my petals

and being bathed by the waterfall

of a loving gardener’s can.

I wouldn’t need much to grow

no sleep, no food,

just the sun and a few sips of water

until I bloomed into a

bold, yet humble

symbol of joy, celebration, and honor

standing royally in the dirt

until I came to rest

on a young girl’s dresser,

being the tangible sign

of a young boy’s love.

“Our Father who art in heaven,”
“Hallowed be thy name.”
Way down in the River,
Where the children gather their straws,
“Thy kingdom come.”
“Thy will be done”
Way down in the River,
Where feet soak up the sand,
“On earth as it is in heaven.”
Way down in the River,
“Give us this day our daily bread,”
Heard the crying birds sing their song,
Way down in the River,
“And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us”
I walked a trail of tears all day long,
Way down in the River,
Centuries past, here again,
I heard the drowning of La Llorona’s latest conquest,
“And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.”
Way down in the River,
“The Gospel of St. Matthew 6:9-13”
The screams unearthed me,
Someone being beat again,
The screams!
The yelling!
All in my head,
Way down in the River,
“Our Father who art in heaven,”
“Hallowed be thy name.”
No sleep for the drowned dead,
“Thy kingdom come.”
“Thy will be done”
The River,
Its thunderous ways,
Light of day,
Drifting, moving rapidy,
She stepped into the River,
She lost her way.

Way down in the River,
Them old Mississippi banjo tunes gone awry,
‘Til dusk, ‘Til dawn,
Nothing changes.
Soaked in basin oil,
His drunkenness another day made him fall in,
“On earth as it is in heaven.”
Teenagers found that old bridge,
“And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us,”
Taking turns with their lives,
Hit a rock.
“Give us this day our daily bread,”
The screams, the screams over and over again,
Committing their own suicide
“And lead us not into temptation,”
And that raft got swept away,
With no one in it,
“But deliver us from evil.”
On this scorching day,
A homeless woman carry cried on ’bout her baby,
“And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us,”
No longer breathing,
“HE will not forgive me,” she says.
As they set a fire next to the River,
Chillin’ them baby bones,
Whispering cold.
“As we forgive those who trespass against us,”

Way down in the River,
I lost my mind,
Sometime…
At sometime,
Way down in the River,
I heard that old gospel song,
“Wade in the water,
Wade in the water,
Children wade, in the water,
God’s gonna trouble the water.”
Way down in the River,
That Louisiana heart beat gave me a stir.

Way down in the Jordan River…
Valley, of patches of red,
القرآن‎ (Qur’an) says, Allah says,
Under that branch,
Dripping on and on, just dripping from that branch,
Was her life,
Eyes of the Dead Sea,
She did not do as her husband ask.
القرآن‎ (Qur’an) says, Allah says,
She must comply and she did not.
القرآن‎ (Qur’an 38:44) – “And take in your hand a green branch and beat her with it, and do not break your oath…”
Way down in the Jordan River.

“Forgive me Father, for I have sinned”,
They reached out,
All the hands,
Raising their arms,
Rising up from the River,
Walking on water,
The Buddha, Messiah, Jesus,
Walking on water,
All day long.
Way down in the River,
They rose and rose,
All day long.

The screams in my head!
Make it stop!
Please no more, please save me!
Way Down in the River,
Silence.
Finally was met,
Solitary…
The worst yet…
To come,
“Wade in the water,
Wade in the water…”
Departing my waves,
Of nothingness,
‘Cause the River,
Could not cry me a different song,
Children wade, in the water,
God’s gonna trouble the water”.

I had to go,
I had to escape,
I had to let go,
And drift it in my way.
I broke free!
I just kept walking in the River,
Forgetting all of my pain,
The stabbings over and over again,
Thirty times Fifty,
Beat, Beat, Beaten,
The screaming!
Metal scraping glass walls,
All day long.
Beat, Beaten, Beat,
Stop!
“Papa’s gonna trouble the water”
Until I could not walk anymore,
“Papa’s gonna trouble the water”
And it filled me up,
Each night, every night,
Filled me Up!
Bursting the life out of me,
Oh, my mind…
Gone.
Smells of disgust,
Strangling me,
The water,
Rising Above.
Cleanse me!
“Oh Father, Art Thou In Heaven”
Screaming!
Oh, the screams!
“Forgive me Father,
For I have sinned”
I did not fight,
I finally let go,
There was no redemption for me,
And that ole country song,
Played on the boom box,
In distant sand.

I was called home,
Way down in the River,
Secrets lie…There…
Deep down… in the heart of the River.
“Praise the Lord,” he said.
There is no escape,
Oh, how I love the River.

“Forgive me Father, for I have sinned”
Let not…
And at mass,
Priest: “You raise the dead to life in the Spirit: Lord, have mercy.”
All: “Lord, have mercy.”

Way down in the River,

I slept.

Priest: “You bring pardon and peace to the sinner: Christ, have mercy.”
All: “Christ, have mercy.”

Way down in the River,

I am at peace.

Priest: ” You bring light to those in darkness: Lord, have mercy.”
All: “Lord, have mercy.”

Way down in the River,

I saved me,

I answered my prayers.

Priest: “May almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins, and bring us to everlasting life.”
All: “Amen.”

Way down in the River,

I have always saved me, not HIM.

As my body drifts deeper into the River, down to the ocean floor, I answer my prayers.

Page 226, “There is no ebb or flow of birth and death, and there is no existing in this world and later entering extinction. It is neither substantial nor empty…” (The Lotus Sutra).

Way down in the River,

I am the Buddha,

It is only me.

Way, way down in the River.

“Wade in the water,
Wade in the water…”

Read Poem: Night fishing by Andrew Duggan

The river Wei,
Autumn solitude
and a thousand eyes.
A moth-rich summer darkness
that warns the soul.

The slow fat queens,
cold-blooded, green and orange.
Spin and turn gasping for breath.
The last of their sins surrendered.

Flashlights and flasks,
a meditation on a fragile soul.
Chasing the silver fins,
the struggle and the toil.
Forty years of night fishing.

Read Poem: Run mama run by Ruth Aka Rhscribbles

Run mama run
That man has got a gun
He’s gunning for your son
What has your son done?
Nothing, he’s done nothing at all
That’s the problem, he lives down the hall
He smokes grass and sits on his ass
But refuses to sell so they say his ass is grass

Run mama run and take that boy with you
Go to the border there’s folks there to help
They’ll give you a cot and some food and sanctuary
A refuge — that’s all that’s necessary

But…

Run mama run
Don’t go to the border
If you go to the border and ask to cross over
Will life be better for you there than here?
They hate you
Despise you
Why do you run there?

Ay lastima mi hijo se murió
No voy a correr mas
I’ll sit here in dust and ashes
Where is my God
How did this happen

We only needed a safe place.

Run mama run
No safe place here

Read Poem: It’s not you, it’s me by Charbel Tadros

If I pass you and don’t greet
While I’m walking down the street
It doesn’t mean I’m avoiding you
It’s just that I didn’t see you
If you talk and I don’t reply
It doesn’t make me a bad guy
I’m probably focused on another matter
and have blocked out all the chatter
If I don’t look at you when you talk to me
Don’t think me rude or snobby
Eye contact is something I can’t bare
And there may be something in your hair
If I pursue tangents in conversation
Don’t think I ignored your information
I probably understood what you have said
And made other connections in my head
If I don’t shake your hand or hug you back
Don’t think that love to you I lack
I just can’t handle being touched
Not even my hand being clutched
If I say something that sounds mean
I’m not trying to cause a scene
I can’t lie to you in your face
And I don’t understand social grace
If you see me panic at the strangest things
Or can’t handle what life brings
It may be something that you’ve done
That has brought my work undone
If I don’t respond how you expect
Or lack concern and respect
Don’t overanalyze what I have said
So much is going on in my head
Because of the way I am or act
With lack of consideration or tact
Don’t think of me as egoistic
It’s just that I’m autistic

I still remember the day I stepped into your home

You cuddled me,carried me,showed me so much love

You became my world

I started growing, i still wanted to be carried, but you didn’t

I understood that may be you are also growing

Whole day I would wait for your return to give you a hug,

but you didn’t

I understood , you had a bad day

One day, you asked me to walk along with you,

I was so excited, I followed your footsteps ,

suddenly ,you were not there with me

I felt ashamed of myself for losing you

I knew you would be searching for me,

I didn’t want to make you sad,

I found my way and came running back,

You saw me, you were sad

I understood, may be you were sad that I struggled

Whatever you do, i will not think ill about you

After all, you are my world

At the end of the day , i wag my tail happily and sleep in a corner

Dreaming about you.

Read Poem: Girls Will Be Girls by KayBeeMapes

You can call it cliche baby.
Turn your face up and frown,
Cover your face and giggle as I make my way down, you’re apprehensive yet intrigued which basically means.. lay Down. Part your knees. Lips say “no”. Eyes say “please”. Another kiss they fall open inviting me in, and I understand you don’t want this attention from your best friend but
What’s the harm if you just look away? Can’t see my face when you put your palms back in their place and move those panties out the way.
I’m diving in best friend .
First kiss taste like nectar, second kiss taste like pleasure , softly moaned “no’s ” but you keep getting wetter and,
Now you NEED to finish desperate times desperate measures
And though I’ve fantasized forever can’t believe we’re doing this together.
Never thought I’d find the X that marks the treasure.

Girls like girls sometimes and that’s the bottom line.
You don’t have to be ashamed. You don’t have to tell no one I come at night and make it rain with no clouds in the sky,
That we twist one up, vibe , part our thighs and finish at the same time from time to time.
That’s my best friend.
So tight I feel you squeeze my finger like a diamond when I slip in. Perfect size.
And we don’t worry about your guy because he’s thinking we’re at brunch.
Not knowing I choose to eat you for our lunch dates.
When you’ve had some mimosas and get a little flirty, wearing high heals and short skirts cause you know it does it for me.
You secretly flaunt it knowing I secretly want it. Watching from the sidelines and its taunting.
The sway of your thick hips got me wanting your thick lips pressed against my thick lips and its haunting.

Show me what you’re made of best friend expose your soul to me, then let me clean it with my lips. Perversions taking control of me and all I’m thinking is I want you to POUR on me best friend.
Let it happen.
Let my teeth sink into your forbidden apple for the garden wouldn’t be poisoned if it were women to begin with
Cut the shit .
Don’t make me beg for it, whatever happened to open-mindedness?
And not letting labels be the thing people defines us with?

List your excuses while I creep up from behind and just let lust be the guide to find my way between your thighs.
It’s only right to know your best friend outside and inside, tell me I’m right.
Give in.
Give up.
Then we can call it a night, all it takes is a little trust.
Apprehensive yet intrigued, a simple task a simple thing. I just want the one thing you won’t share with me.
Come on and not care with me, go bare with me, sit on my lap and let’s explore for clarity.
I know what to do SINCERELY to get you off, so lose the clothes girl take it off, its making sense, don’t take the loss.
Take the nut instead.
Not that big a deal its just a little head for my best friend.
Apprehension morphs to tension as she readys herself for an act that can’t be forgiven, she says my name as if I’ve been missing from her wildest dreams.
Bad girls. Bad fantasies. That makes us do sweet things like the acts that we exchange.
She taste like relief, and I taste like her peace. waters running down my lips, chin, and cheeks and she needs it with the stress of her work weeks.
Got her all wound up, the tide is tough but I won’t give up, instead I buckle down, pulling her hips closer to my face there’s no stopping now, as she looks down she can’t even care now, she needs me here where I am and I watch her lips say “I’m cumming best friend.”
That’s my best friend.

Read Poem: A Love Letter To Michael Myers and Halloween by Jaye Clinton

You showed up in our lives in 78′

You were just a small boy up way too late

Your sister was brushing her hair till it gleamed

But your knife was shinier and so was your scheme

You stabbed her and killed her and put on a new mask

Taken away without completing your task

Fore another sister you had who we knew got away

But you finally came back on that one certain day

October 31st, Halloween night you went on a rampage and caused such affright

The residents of Haddonfield soon went running amok

Fleeing away from you without having much luck

You found your sister Laurie, now Strode her last name

And went about on your own killing game

You chased her, and chased her and cornered her you had

But a long came Loomis who shot you so bad

But die you didn’t, you disappeared in the night

Was that the Boogeyman? she asked and Loomis said right

So we welcome you back on this Halloween

Bringing back your sister a true scream queen

You’ve entertained and thrilled us, and caused us to fear

The Boogeyman is real and 2018 the year

You’re my best friend and forever my true lover
I know our true is true
Holding you forever inside
My beating heart
Thinking solely of you
My love

Your gentel kiss
Your warm smile
A feeling for true love
Living you my sweetheart
When you’re at my side
Oh I fall in love

A beauty from above
From inside and out
A true gift from above

A passion of love
So deep inside my heart
I’m happy I’ve truly found you
The one who was truly
Touched my beating heart.
