Watch the Poetry Reading of BLIND TRUTH:

Poem performed by actress Val Cole

Get to know poet Esther James:

1) What is the theme of your poem?

Perseverance/Overcoming Adversity

2) How would you like people to respond when they read or watch your
poetry reading?

I would like people to be able to empathize. We have all probably had a disagreement with a friend. When one values that friendship, there needs to be a time for someone to withdraw and just “let it be”. But, just because one walks away, that doesn’t mean he/she needs to feel belittled, or that their opinion does not count. Sometimes, it is just best to release the animosity and move on.

3) How long have you been writing poetry?

15 years

4) Do you have a favorite poet?

Many favorite. I find myself reading much of ee. cumming.

5) What influenced you to submit…

saint irreverence (about Iggy Pop)
by Tara Keogh

iggy silver leather
sexy slither and destroy
withers into
wriggles and writhes
across the tv eye
in real fun time
for his war zone
world serenade

pop goes the system
implode
explode
reload
all around
it came full circle
to enshrine you
holy and high
fin’ly recognized
as king of the game

punk rock
generator
agitator
tortured man
barking mad
as a hatter

the mercury’s rising
this brother’s on fire
the fuses are fizzling
desire is sizzling
glass is shattering
shards are scattering
as shadows frieze into
scorched scenes
of sublime obscenery
when he vanquishes
with vanguard vulgarity
as saint irreverence

and now he’s legendary
an incendiary tendency
to trash the tolerance
of the bourgeoisie
yank the leg
of the leviathan
undercut uncle sam
incarnate
as he creates
chaotic
melodic
cacophony
catapulting carnage
at the
humanity insanity
and
fucking the man
on his
rude
boy
crusade

Stronger, Poetry by Dawn M. Simpson

The mother bird tended to her young with great pride.
She knew they would not always be by her side.

The day soon came for them to part.

Stronger
by Dawn M. Simpson

The mother bird tended to her young with great pride.
She knew they would not always be by her side.
She tried to teach them with love in her heart,
The day soon came for them to part.
And then the mother bird looked at her empty nest.
She did her best
To fight back the tears,
As she thought about all the past years.
With uncertainty she asked “Who am I?”.
She stared across the vast blue sky.
And with the strong wings that she had earned,
With the fire in her soul that still burned,
She flapped her wings and began to fly.
To chase her own dreams until the day she died.
She felt the wind that lifted her wings,
The feeling that only true peace can bring.
She had flown full circle in her life,
Sometimes being full of strife.
But she knew who she was again.
And as she looked down on the earth beneath her,
She soared higher than an eagle.
Stronger than ever.

If Pluto Is No Planet
by Barbara Doran-Rogel

What do you mean?
How could you dare?
Jupiter’s nothing but a ball of air

So I’ve been living in illusion
That planets are in collusion
To steer my fate
Where’s the debate?

Jupiter is benign?
Now I can crash the shrine
Belief’s suspended, I’m offended
Break my heart so now you mend it

You mean, Venus is a molten sphere
That burns you up when you go near
So all that talk of heart’s entwined
Is merely man’s delusional mind

Then you tell me Mercury
Has nothing much to do with me
Or its position in my house
Did not attract my witty spouse

If Saturn’s rings mean nothing much
If Pluto is no planet
Then all the things I thought I knew
Have basis as in granite

What if life was an illusion?, Poetry by Abhishek Jha

Genre: Life, Dream

What if life was an illusion?
by Abhishek Jha

What if life was an illusion,
And everything that we saw was just a mirage,
The tree, the mountain, the rivers,
Never actually existed,
Which we thought were the very pillars of our mother earth.

What if it was all just a giant dream,
A dream too good to be true,
But only if it was broken,
Would we come to know what actually is true,
But are we real or we are all an illusion as well,
Well, in that case its a question on our existence,
But we don’t care, do we,
Because we are all lost in the worldly things.

And then I ponder on the fact,
That the mankind being materialistic is infact a good thing,
Even though it might be considered a bad virtue,
Coz had it been, people thinking about real stuff,

Locked In
by Samantha K Collinson

Exploding lights, raindrops

Hitting electric fields.

I run out, dancing;

Entwined, holding his hand.

The sky, extravagant,

Fireworks waving, rainbow

Colours rippling.

I look at him, filled with

Emotion. Heart throbbing,

Body quaking.

I feel the rhythm,

Absorbing. We run into

Elysium.

Twisting and turning,

The music rising,

Vibrations quickening.

The night stands still,

No time limit, no loss,

Just us.

I make a wish to the floating

Flowers, rising to the beat.

I close my eyes – we kiss,

I wake.

Walls pale and thin,

White explodes inwards

Towards the hospital bed.

I lay, no movement,

He holds my hand.

Time takes over – once more,

Tick after tick.

Eulogy For A Bat, Poetry by Kathy Figueroa

Eulogy For A Bat
by Kathy Figueroa

A wisp of dusk, personified
Or should I say, ‘animalified’
It grieves me, Bat
That you have died

A blight wracked your tiny body
Slight and brown
Stopped your flight
And struck you down

I wondered why
Not long ago
When the ground
Was cloaked with snow
As I looked outside
Late at night
I saw you swoop by
The electric light

“What could it possibly
Find to eat, now?”
Was on my mind
How could a bug
It hope to find
When all was frozen
White and still?
I know now, Bat
That you were ill

In the shelter where
You were housed
To winter’s chill
You were roused

Then, in search of food
You left the safety
Of your home
Because of a plague called
‘White Nose Syndrome’

This pestilential disease
Caused you to awaken
…Then starve…
