Read Poem: HORSE BREAKER, by Scout Tafoya

Hungover at the polling place
What have I done to deserve this
Need a cigarette and nothing coming
You don’t smoke, she said the last time they met
Not sure what her point was
You need things, everyone needs
things
“People learn by getting bit”
Til then
Why not me? And why me?
Parking lot choked and sputtering, can’t even go home
A lot of time on his hands now to wait
to pretend I know where that is
