Poetry by Patrick Hill

 Genre: Society

I am tough like Huey,
I dream like Martin,
I see like Malcolm,
I stand like Rosa,
I am educated like Booker,
I am the stature of Fredrick,
I am the embodiment of a civil right movement,
But I am the reflection of history,
I am the rebellion of Nate,
I am a leader like Tubman,
I am the community of Black Wall Street,
But I am the audacity of hope like Obama,
I am the most hated man like Colin,
But I am the most beloved person like Nelson,
I am the ascendant child of Africa,
But I am a citizen of a nation that is United States,
My oppression is of a third world,
But I have an opportunity,
I am from poverty,
But that won’t stop me,
Where I go,
My people will follow,
I am the example of greatness,
But endure failures,
I am victory like the revolutionary war,
But I still have a long way to go to be free.

Can We?, Poetry by diankp

Genre: equality, diversity, life, society, hope, friendship, coffee.

Can We?

By : diankp

Why coffee has different taste?
Because they grown in different place,
Grow in different soil, air temperature, drainage, et cetera
That’s why, we will get the different in taste.

Just like humans, just like us,
We are born and grow up with different belief, parents, friends,
We have a different situation and condition.

And we never choose the choises,
The choices that would make us different,
We will never be the same.

That’s why we can’t compare about taste of coffee,
We can’t compare about our friends,
Since born we are absolutely different,
Just coffee, just human, just people.

But,

Why society wants everyone to be same as other,
Why society made everything worse,
Hard to breathe, hard to face it.

So many hates,
So many violence,
Can we just spread the love?

Just like fragrance of coffee,
That made everyone’s happy,
Give peacefulness and felicity.

Can we?

Unsaid Failures, Poetry by Patricia Mae Estenoso

Genre:Life

There are things I would choose not to write,
Like wishes for friends who came and went,
Hoping they will remember me still,
These things break my heart,
But I still write them anyway.

There are things I would choose not to write,
Like goals that went unaccomplished,
Trying to make up for wrong decisions,
These things break my heart,
But I still write them anyway.

There are things I would choose not to write,
Like feelings untold for a lost love,
Wishing I had told them sooner,
These things break my heart,
But I still write them anyway.

These are things I would choose not to write,
But I write them anyway,
Yes, they break my heart still
But I hold them as gentle reminders,
Of friendships to keep,
Of goals that could not wait,
And of feelings that should be said.

ROGUE WAVE, Poetry by Joanne Van Leerdam

 Genre: Rhyme, Society

ROGUE WAVE

The surging wave builds and heaves,
Gathering its watery force,
And in that crucial moment, I believe
I can ride it all the way to shore
Just like I’ve done successfully
So many other times before.
Before I know it, I’m out of my depth
Chaos in blue and green and white,
Fighting for sunlight, for my next breath,
Turning to grey and black and fright,
Afraid of drowning, preparing for death,
Exhausted from trying to swim to the light.
Physical, spiritual underwater erosion
Sand in my eyes, my ears, my pants,
Churning debris mimics seething emotion;
At the height of the whirly-burly dance
The whirling dervish of the ocean
Chooses to give me another chance.
Raw and bleeding from abrasion,
Thrown aloft, then falling free,
In a final gesture of degradation,
Vomited unceremoniously,
Headfirst into humiliation
A piece of human ambergris.

Stretches of Silence, Poetry by Ivina Emmanuel

Genre: Rhyme, Relationship

 With dewy-eyed dragged on
With my gaze upon
Glances brighter as the day
I caught her soul entwined in the web
But lack what to say, like a play

Even with this swift communion if a babe
Entangled in the slying- coyness
I still let her feel the beat my shyness
Trapped in the stillness of her eye

But not to let go for long
Holding onto parts rendered undone
In our vacant gazes towards the rising sun
Made more severe by the sudden bright ray shone

I know she could melt a heart as snow,
Bring me the stars if feelings were made to show
Her heart always as pure as gold
Yet, let her vanished into her fold

Would she ever feel my absence?
Would I ever catch glimpses of her presence?
Oh, would she ever cross this path again?
For I have spent years hoping forever in the rain in vain.

not me, Poetry by Jose Carlos Peliano

don’t say no, not to me
but what you mirror on me

don’t pick me up, not me
but the sky that shines in me

don’t kiss me, not me
but the flower that blossoms in me

don’t leave me, not me
but what you expects from me

don’t mourn, not me
but what you looses in me

Release, Poetry by Morgan Amos

 Writing is my therapeutic release

Expression through my pen

I can tell my true feelings or mask them into a story

A story of someone who is internally broken

Who hides behind a smile

Who’s careful not to let a tear fall

Writing is my therapeutic release

I can bare my soul

I can write what I am feeling when I cannot physically speak the words

Writing is my therapeutic release where I can invite you into my world whether I am feeling low or the happiest person in the world

Writing is my therapeutic release

Unleashing pent up aggression, bottled up emotions, the realization and truth regarding certain situations

Writing is my therapeutic release and forever will be, because even when I may not be able to speak, I can write down how I feel, and in doing that, find some sort of peace

Genre: Freedom

Traveling Heart, Poetry by Demarco Singleton

I can’t stop what has already taken flight.

I’d be killing the dream of one, but slowing down the dream of ton.
Let me explain

If a heart is already gone, how can you get it back?

It is not the fact of getting it back, but trying to jump in front of its path without turning a good heart bad.

If you continue to try to stop this heart, you are stopping its travel to happiness.

Stopping this mission will lead to a life of no forgiveness and a heart with bad intentions.

Don’t slow down the dream of ton just because this heart lose one.

A Poem to a Child, Poetry by Kriz Rogers

On the day you were born the sky was so blue,
The trees, oh, so gorgeous – each limb of them too.
Each grain of the sand felt pure joy over you:
May of all of this love your soul always be true.
Amen.
