1) What is the theme of your poem?
Theme: About an old Fisherman making his final fishing trip.
2) What motivated you to write this poem?
Motivation: My father was a fisherman for 40 + years in Ireland living by a fishing village. In summer months I went on the boat with him in my childhood. The poem is a reflection of part of my childhood spent fishing.
3) How long have you been writing poetry?
I dabbled in my early 20s with poetry. Started writing again seriously about 10 years ago.
4) If you could have dinner with one person (dead or alive), who would that be?
The Dali Lama, to see what words of wisdom he can give me. How can I motivate myself to become a better person. To discuss with him his views on modern
society‘s relationship with technology & religion. Basically to be inspired by his presence.
5) What influenced you to submit to have your poetry performed by a professional actor?
Why not! How often do you get an opportunity like this? It’s fun it’s a visual and vocal interpretation of a written piece of art. Make it come alive! Reach out to a wider audience.
6) Do you write other works? scripts? Short Stories? Etc..?
Sports writing mainly football. Satire writing occasionally. Used to be a journalist writing about Health and Social Affairs.
7) What is your passion in life?
Emotional awareness of your surroundings. Appreciation of nature and art which inspires writing. The power of knowledge makes a mind stronger every day. Listen to your intuition. Acknowledge that you’re learning about life every day till the day you die.

Get to know the poet:
What is the theme of your poem?
Empowering individuals to take control of themselves, to accomplish their goals. We all have that power, but unlike the simplest toy or device that we buy, WE do not come with an ‘Operators Manual’! This poem IS one, it reveals the simplicity of changing conciousness!
What motivated you to write this poem?
We have developed a powerful Smartphone Biofeedback instrument and I wrote the poem to explain how it can empower YOU!
How long have you been writing poetry?
Since 1972 – Forty-five years!
If you could have dinner with one person (dead or alive), who would that be?
William Shakespeare
What influenced you to submit to have your poetry performed by a professional actor?
While I can read my own poetry, I wondered what an actor could bring to it with their own interpretation of it!
Do you write other works? scripts? Short Stories? Etc..?
Yes, I wrote a Children’s Book – “Jacque the Lumberjack”, I wrote decades ago and is about to be published!
I have just started to Write a Book on Elite Sport Psychology, and my Forty Three Years Work with Olympic and Professional Athletes with the Mind Over Muscle Program I co-authored with Major Nory Laderoute, former Athletic Director of the Canadian Armed Forces Combat Training Center. It reveals the Power of Your Mind, to every individual – and how you can simply “Take Charge of Yourself”!
What is your passion in life?
Skiing, Consciousness, Self-Realization and Family

Get to know the poet:
What is the theme of your poem?
The theme of ‘Rogue Wave’ is living with and surviving the challenges life throws at us. Everyone faces challenges that turn life over and make us wonder what’s coming next. This poem will also have additional depth for anyone living with a chronic illness or a condition, especially depression or anxiety – they can go through this kind of experience every day, sometimes more than once a day.
What motivated you to write this poem?
‘Rogue Wave’ is a poem that comes from my own experience of life as a person who lives with both depression and chronic conditions. It frequently feels like the wave of life is dumping me hard, but even when it does spit me onto the sand, I have survived.
I wrote this poem to encourage those in similar situations through knowing that they are not alone and someone else feels the same way they do, but also to enlighten those who haven’t considered what that can be like.
How long have you been writing poetry?
I’ve been writing poetry for years, and got published for the first time last year.
If you could have dinner with one person (dead or alive), who would that be?
William Shakespeare. I love his work, and have so many questions!
What influenced you to submit to have your poetry performed by a professional actor?
I believe in my work, and I want to see it reach people and move them. I think that’s what any poet wants.
Do you write other works? scripts? Short Stories? Etc..?
In addition to my poetry, I have one book of short stories about encountering challenge and change called ‘New Horizons’, and a one-act play for teens called ‘The Shakespeare Omelette’.
What is your passion in life?
Obviously, poetry is one of my passions. I’m also passionate about helping my students be the best that they can be and pursue their own passions in life, too.
