These Shoes, by Latonia Sears

Most of the time people see you without knowing
What is really on your mind
making comments about the shoes you wear
because they are torn a leaning to the side
Laughing saying how they would not be caught dead in
raggedy shoes such as these

These Shoes
by Latonia Sears

Most of the time people see you without knowing
What is really on your mind
making comments about the shoes you wear
because they are torn a leaning to the side
Laughing saying how they would not be caught dead in
raggedy shoes such as these
although for you it is a blessing for you
to have these shoes on your feet
For not everyone can wear these shoes
they are yours and fit you just right
the appearance of these shoes should be the last thing
on your mind while you have them in your sight
Just to walk in someone else’s shoes is extraordinarily in itself
history onfirms that so many have tried and failed
In these shoes you can walk life’s path
looking through some else ‘s eyes
It is not an easy task to see
another’s hopes and dreams
their beginnings and endings
and how they paid the price
Everyone’s shoes have walked a different path
some have strolled the red carpet while others
have walked through fire and glass
Although to each it was never a bother
Exactly like Jesus Christ and the shoes he wore
which made him destined to walk on water
All I am saying is shoes are shoes
no matter what style or size
It is the feet in the shoes that make the difference
Even if they are tired and ugly inside
So the next time just stop that person and
ask them where those shoes have taken them in life
and if you actually stop and talk to them
you can see their whole story
from the expression in their eyes

Wrongness, Poetry by Julie Martin

Dread crawls up your arm

On Sprightly legs

Wrongness by Julie Martin

Dread crawls up your arm

On Sprightly legs

You cannot shake the feeling

Of a wrongness

As you stand there at twilight

Dark on a moonless night

Beside the empty eyes of a stranger

That shine under the glare of a moving train

Closer now, he creeps

Leaning, leering, targeting, choosing,

Will you be next?

As you debate whether to run or face your fate

His asymmetrical grin grows

His movements jerky, he’s been made

What will you do?

Thick blankets spread out in your dry throat

Can you cry out?

He turns to face you, a blessing to his hunger

Can you run?

Not a moment for impotent rage now

A moment for caution, a moment for speed

Open your eyes wide, pupils dilated

It’s crazy time

Saliva pools from your dry lips as you bare your teeth

A hiss here, a growl there

Fingers become claws as you prepare to fight

Disappointment clouds his features

Doubt dulls eyes once bright

You’re not on the menu tonight.

The Earth Through the Eyes of the Moon, Poetry by Julie Hartley

The Earth Through the Eyes of the Moon
by Julie Hartley

O magnificent Majesty, cornucopia in dark space
Your quiet splendour today, evokes a feeling of peace
Cerulean beauty, you are, shrouded in milky haze
I am your humble follower, enigmatic but at ease

We’ve traversed the way in sync, for many a year
Constantly evolving, we have come so very far
In all this great distance and all this passing time
We belonged together, following our parent star

I watched your many revolutions, turning myself too
Your conditions gently cooled, allowing life to grow,
Influencing your world, directing ebbs and flows
Leading thoughts skywards as the place to go

My bright pale aspect enlightened the dark night sky
Inspired beings upon you look towards my face
Our mutual attraction and long lasting solidarity
Culminated in lifeforms able to venture into space

Paint Passion
by Michelle Toussaint

Paint her face,

A portrait of pleasure,

Brush lips,

Slowly against her,

Spreading colour across closed eyelids,

Each finger stroke,

Leaving impressions on the image of her,

Make her yours,

Infuse meaning with each tender passing,

Of flesh over flesh,

And something more intertwined,

Paint her,

A portrait of passion,

To endure all ages,

On the canvas of your mind.

Debt Crisis
by Kasole Nyembo

Twitter: @rogueconomics

(As long as some make much more than they use, bad loans will be written and periodic debt crisis will occur)

On an island far away
Was the city of coconut bay.
Coconut was all that was produced,
All that the townspeople used.

They build with coconut bricks,
Drank coconut milk,
Wore coconut hats,
And played with coconut bats.

But nobody lent a hand,
For they each had their own land.

There lived a smart girl named Sue,
Who built a machine with coconut glue.
Others could only catch two nuts per day.
She caught twelve with time to play.

Sue produced more than she consumed
And put the rest in her storeroom.
Next to her small hut,
There soon were mountains of nuts.

She had so many to spare,
That it almost seemed unfair.
When a nut fell on her snout
Sue decided to lend them out.

If they vowed to give one back the next day,
Sue lent one out right away.
But when it was time to pay,
You could always hear them say:

“We produce too few,
To eat and pay you back too!”
But Sue to protect her snout,
Continued to lend nuts out.

Since she produced more than she consumed
And it was full in her storeroom

Tooth and Nail, Poetry by Dudley Clarence Sturgis IV

Tooth and Nail by Dudley Clarence Sturgis IV

I’ve been hunted since I was a child
But I can’t take a rest
Sick of everyone’s offered pity
Don’t they know I’m blessed?

I’ve broken every bone in my body
And I’ve scraped my nails to the bone
Climbing up this mountain of death
That I will soon forge into a throne

Give me the crown and the jewels to match
Yes, I will be taking what is mine
I’ve the soul of Joan of Arc and Cleopatra’s heart
If I’m to die, then I will die enshrined

Give me the crown and the jewels to match
No, I will not wait any longer
I’ve fought my way; it was child’s play
For royalty to face a warmonger

I’ve been outcast since I was a child
But I can’t take a breath
Sick of your sentimental shit
Just watch me murder death

They’ve broken my heart a thousand times
And I’ve scattered the shards to the winds
Climbing up this mountain of ice
That was forged from my own sins

Give me the crown and the jewels to match
Yes, I’ will be making them my own
I’ve the soul of Joan of Arc and Cleopatra’s heart
If I’m to die, I’ll die on my throne

Give me the crown and the jewels to match
No, I will not wait any longer
I’ve fought all my life; all I know is strife
But I’ll never be your warmonger

My father once told me
When I was all alone
To never let another man
Sit upon my throne
I remember my father told me
In the days before he died
That I will have to put in the work
In order to create my own light

Give me the crown and the jewels to match
Yes, I’ll be taking what is mine
I’ve the soul of Joan of Arc and Cleopatra’s heart
If I’m to die, then I will die enshrined

Give me the crown and the jewels to match
Yes, I’ll be making them my own
I’ve the soul of Joan of Arc and Cleopatra’s heart
If I’m to die, I’ll die on my throne

North of Tombstone, 3 A.M, Poetry by Doug Stanfield

Shadows and silhouettes made by the waning moon
Slide past and disappear in the direction of California’a promise.
Off to the south somewhere over the sand and arroyos and cacti
Is Old Mexico. A few miles, no more.
A small town slips into view through the train window:
Safeway. Ace Hardware. A Benson Fuel station glares at a Shell station on the other corner.

A small town slips into view through the train window:
Safeway. Ace Hardware. A Benson Fuel station glares at a Shell station on the other corner.
Ten-thousand tons glide to a stop so softly it would not wake a baby with colic.

An old woman with a bonnet lifts a bag over the curb,
Joining our travels. Her husband watches that she
Gets on board, hands shoved in jeans pockets, then turns back to the pickup for the long
Drive home in the dark, another desert sunrise a few miles down the dusty road.

Rolling again, now. Eastward toward a corner of New Mexico, then El Paso and Texas.

The car rocks softly, the miles drift by, the engine far ahead
The horn blast at crossings barely heard and I feel myself drifting off to sleep again.

I wonder about the kind of man who would come here
In the early times, on horseback, or on foot
Across this dry emptiness that only wanted to suck the water from them?

Was it silver? Land? Water?
Or simply that those men had managed to run
All other choice away somehow,
And this dry place, full of ghosts and questions,
Was the last that would take them…
All human bonds snapped, rejected,
Starting over where no one could know your shame.

Indifferent it was to anything
But the water in them.

In Our Hearts You Fill, Poetry by Lisa Reynolds

Rich tears in my eyes,
The reality has not set in,
All those family ties,
The death of my closest kin.
I want to imagine the coffin isn’t real,
Then this pain I won’t have to feel.
In time this pain apparently will heal.

In Our Hearts You Fill by Lisa Reynolds

Rich tears in my eyes,
The reality has not set in,
All those family ties,
The death of my closest kin.
I want to imagine the coffin isn’t real,
Then this pain I won’t have to feel.
In time this pain apparently will heal.
But Father you’ll never see so much,
Me marry or cohabitate,
Me become a parent,
Me try to achieve my dreams.
But I cherish what we had,
18 years of joy.
And I know somewhere
You can see all you can’t be there for.
I learned to be a better person from you,
I learned that to be good to people was to be true,
I still remember our family trip to Dublin Zoo
And I know together or apart our family is like glue.
My Mother, my sister and I mourn you still
As we continue on life’s running mill
And in our hearts you fill.

Things Left Unsaid, Poetry by Kaushik Roy

Things Left Unsaid by Kaushik Roy

You know I’ve crossed mountains just to be right by your side.
Walked a hundred miles just to see your lovely smile
Baby, you may walk away
But honey, I’ll follow you to the ends of the world

I want to kiss away the demons that haunt your dreams
I want to purify your silent empty thoughts
I want to let the world know
You’re more than what they see
You’re the glowing fields at night
Under a starry sky

God knows, he knows I love you so
Your eyes, they electrify my life
And your smile it makes me come alive
Hold me, save my wandering soul
Teach me, what it means to have the one

I want to recognise the beauty that’s in your heart
You are the flowing stream from my temple of thought
