CONFIDING, Poetry by Isabella Destrades

Genres: Life, Reflection, Dreams, Introspection, Pain, Living, Contemplation.

 She laid down
on the carpet in the
living room because
she wanted to understand…

It wasn’t that she didn’t
know what was happening
or why she was feeling this way
but she wanted to seek answers
and consult the ceiling
and the lightbulb
and the crack at the far
left corner
that had been there
for as long as she could remember…

There was so much she needed to know…

But she laid there for too long
and the ceiling grew too thin
and she could see the stars peeking through

As all of outside tried to come in
and the ceiling faded into dust that consumed
her body as it lay against the fibers of the carpet

She closed her eyes and started to whisper out
towards whatever could hear her, or
whoever happened to be listening to her at that time

And images flooded her mind
and took control
of her body
and her will
and her sense of self

Images of knives being stabbed through her back
as people laughed at her spasms and shrieks
while others looked at her as if she were a specimen
under the glass of a microscope

ConfidingIsabella Destrades

She cried for help, but no one could hear her

There were images of hands touching hands
under the lust of the moon’s glow
surrounded by damp soil and wildflowers
that thrived upon the hearts of young lovers

And she could somehow, make out the image of
a school bus arriving, veiled in fog
and wet leaves
and mud
ready to take her to the schoolyard
where all her worries and disappointments
became her breaking point
and the people she saw there
were just tamed circus mice
following a path she did not choose to go

But she said to herself
“I have no choice,”
and continued on with her day…

Suddenly, her eyes open up
as a microwave beeps and a child’s
voice is heard shouting on the
television screen

And she realizes that the dust from the ceiling
did not cover her body

And the stars were nowhere to be seen
(which disappoints her a bit)

She stands up and looks at the clock
and decides she should go to bed,
for the lights shine back at her 1:26 a.m.
and that is the sensible thing to do

She heads to her room

ConfidingIsabella Destrades
to take off her clothes
and sleeps soundly
hoping tomorrow
will be a better day…

No one really understood her

How her mind worked
and who she really was inside
but everyone knew she had dreams
and that was enough for them
to feel afraid…

THE DEFENCE OF THE DARK, Poetry by Helen Spisak

 Genre: Dark

Darkness has a very independent existence
Needing no reassurance of being
And no alliance of thought

Darkness holds burdens and secrets together
The extraordinary to the mundane
Where regrets are buried forever

Darkness tolerates the dreamy, watery moonlight
Hibernates from the extrovert sun
And clarifies all sound to a pindrop

Darkness loves to party with nocturnal friends
Hide all flaws and make amends
Sends restorative sleep and plays ‘nightmare roulette’

Darkness has pity for poor twilight
Loathes torches, fires and electric
Teases us from the edge of flickering candlelight

Darkness loves to shadow puppet on a moonlit wall
Lurk in cupboards, corridors and corners
And loves to make you tumble and fall

Darkness lives or hides in us all
You don’t have to light every corner of your soul

Children Of Adam, Poetry by Huseyin Abudharr Ali

 Genre: Political

Were there noone left in the world with a conscience,
And the idea of human rights was seen as old fashioned nonsense,
Were the media to call my peaceful means acts of terror,
And I was alone in this world on my endeaver,
Were people to spit at me in the streets,
And never listen to a word I say whenever I’d speak,
Were they to try make me turn my back I could never let them,
For they are the children of Adam how can I forget them,

Even if they were to hang me in Trafalgar Square,
And I struggled to stay conscious out of fear,
Even when trying to find hope seems hopeless,
And I they drugged me up so much I couldn’t even focus,
Even if they gave me a choice between London Dungeon,
Or the stolen wealth of the tower of London,
Were they to try give me amnesia I could never let them,
For they are the children of Adam how can I forget them,

If I ever lived when kindness was seen as a weakness,
And I was the only one left who believed this,
If my cause was seen as a type of mental illness,
And I became a pariah in my community because I feel this,
If my body was so exhausted I could barely move,
And the only options put in front of me was quit or loose,
Then they offered to put the sun in right hand and the moon in my left,
Still they are the children of Adam how can I forget the oppressed,

The inner conscience – Break Free (Save Me), Poetry by Raeshon Woodhouse

 Genre: Dark Twisted Reality

She don’t wanna go back home, she don’t wanna die tonight, every time she goes on the road, she dies a little more inside. She don’t wanna love him no more, cause all the love do is make her cry, she searching for the truth in a bottle after being told all the lies.

She just wanna live her life, take a break from this guy, She’s been contemplating suicide. She’s about to turn 25, Her last man did her wrong, told her a bunch of lies. They always used to fight back and forth, she stabbed him with a fork, he gave her a black eye. Got the baby upstairs, the baby needs to change, cause all it does is sleep and cry.

It all started last month, they were slow on the rent, they were both looking for some closure. Then he said lets start trappin but you know she ain’t trappin, this woman she got some morals. She couldn’t believe what she heard, he must’ve thought she was a bird, now she’s saying that it’s over. But he says it ain’t over until he says so, he wants to go and control her. Now she looking up to God, while he’s beating on her face, she just wants it to be over. She don’t know what’s up with this guy, or what he has became, he turned into a monster. Now every time she looks at him, straight fear in her eyes, she called up her friend Sonya. Said she needs to leave, or she’s calling the police cause she’s living with a monster.

She’s tryna call 911, she called her friend and mom, she’s praying for God to watch her kid. Cause shits getting real, he’s applying pressure where it hurts, while pointing a gun at her ribs. He says one more word and everybody dies and yes, that does include the kid. So she doesn’t say a word but the look in her eyes says “fuck you I wish we never kissed.” Now he hangs up the phone, they all alone at home. He’s pacing back and forth. He’s losing control, still holding his side from when she stabbed him with the fork. He says “after all I’ve done, for you and this kid, you wanna go and leave me” she said “you aren’t the man that I met last year, now all you do is beat me.” He said “I thought I said not to say any more words” that right there was the last straw. They were both going at it for a little while longer until suddenly shots rang off.

Two thuds hit the ground, other tenants heard the sound, everybody came rushing to the door. Sonya came with the police, they arrived at the scene then asked everybody what’s going on. They explained what happened, they described it as madness, we heard it all the way from the next floor. They all made their way inside and was so surprised to see two bodies laying there on the floor.. Bullet holes in her body, another in his head, while the baby is upstairs crying. You don’t have to go through this, I know everybody dies but there’s a better way of dying…

The Restoration of a Broken Lady, Poetry by Damita Maclin

 Genre: Hope, Inspirational

How has America been so great?
When she is afflicted with poverty and taught to be filled with hate.
Surely, not when her lands were raped
By immigrants desperately trying to escape
She has been flooded, swept over, and her forests still burn.
Her soil poisoned with innocent bloodshed at every turn.
She has been lied to more than she’s been laid upon
Disrespected with trash and toxins in rivers, lakes, and ponds
She has been drilled, shattered, exploited, and spat upon since she can remember.
No longer being loved and cared for; respectfully and tender
Her arms stretch continuously from East to West.
However, in comparison her love for others is still the best.
She does not judge the fact that people just want to live.
She is the CEO of trillions from crops to cotton because she gives.
America, the beautiful; land of the free
But, she has been enslaved since the first settlers crossed the sea.
She has been separated from her Mother since the tectonic plate shift
Yet, she has been bought and sold more than Christmas gifts.
America, the beautiful; home of the brave
But, oh how she has been cried upon over unnamed graves.
May God bless America, land that I love.
Continue to heal her with the sun and the rains from above.
Stand beside her as she struggles to stand for justice for all.
And guide her safely with love and equality as a cure all
Across mountains, shout and from prairies other can scream
To oceans and backwoods that America still has a dream!
That regardless of her pain
While others calculate their gains
All America has needed was to be cherished,
Loved by Americans with gentleness
She has always been great
In spite of some people’s ignorance and hate
She is waiting for an apology as we regain her trust
But, that takes love and including ALL of us!!

A trace of dreams
© Jan. 9th, 2017 Dora Marii

Let’s see… what did twenty-sixteen
Have in store for me?
This plane of existence caught your attention
There’s massive need for intervention

Dreams keep coming want to get real,
In the sleepless nights, that’s how they feel
January stirred the fantasy so bad
Got you twistin’ turning in your bed

“Joy of my Soul! I feel such consolation
In you – by You!” Soulmate’s incantation
Woke you up, you’ve felt the Love
He’s been offering from above.

“Let’s do something, let’s meet”,
You’ve heard the Calling so sweet,
“I love you” was the shy rebound,
Putting light around like a gown.

What shall I do? Seeking for guidance
See him worried about the encounter,
“I’d better stop, I’ve been drinking!”
“Look after yourself”- you’ve been thinking.

Until you made your mind an Obeyer
Of the higher Soul mind’s, a prayer,
All thoughts vanished in a vroom
And so peaceful was your morning room!

“They always bite the hand that feeds them”, Poetry by Sofia Kioroglou

 Genre: Religion, Philosophical

 Always be a giver

cast your bread upon the waters

Don’t expect anything back

It is not just the 613 mitzvot we are talking about

It is just a matter of kindness

You know what they say:

They always bite the hand that feeds them
